Nostalgia

“Kagura...”
He felt the air blowing gently as he walked towards the village. Jaken followed him, seemingly unaware of the thoughts hidden beneath his beautiful calm face. He had been visiting Rin a lot these days bringing her gifts and other necessities.
Several years had passed after Naraku’s death. Naraku caused countless catastrophes. Many sacrificed and were sacrificed because of his wickedness. Sesshoumaru witnessed a lot of things, and a lot of them he still remembers very clearly.
Especially that time.
He remembered standing amidst a field of white flowers, for the first time feeling totally powerless. He remembered doing nothing as the woman dissolved into air, smiling as she breathed her last. He remembered looking into those eyes- curious, and hard, and yet pleading- and he failed to keep them from forever closing.
Naraku already died, but he still felt very uneasy.
“What if I had saved her from Naraku?” That thought disturbs him every time.
He was always so composed and detached and certain of himself. It was only after that woman came that his faultless world became twisted. He felt trapped inside a cage of human sensations he never imagined himself to be in.
He arrived at the place where Rin is staying. She happily welcomed him. For a while he forgot about his troublesome memories.
Later that night he found himself all bent over, stretching a hand below on a cliff overlooking the whole village. Clinging onto his arm was Rin, all grown up but apparently still the same kid he rescued several years back- the same kid he couldn’t seem to leave alone. As he set the girl down on her feet the cold night wind brushed gently on his face. And then he noticed her eyes. Those eyes were the same as that woman’s- curious, and hard, but pleading.
“Kagura..,” Sesshoumaru mutters.
He held on tight to the girl, a storm of emotions building up inside of him. No, he wouldn’t let this girl be alone. He wouldn’t make the same mistake he did before.
Rin’s confused face brought him back to reality. He took his hands off her and led her back to the village. “You shouldn’t be carelessly running fast in a place such as this,” he said as they went their way.
He looked back at Rin and remembered those eyes- and that woman to whom they previously belonged.
“Kagura, you are more fortunate.”
